An Introduction to Scouting
The Scouts is the UK’s largest youth organisation, dedicated to empowering young people with skills for life. We encourage everyone to do more, learn more, and be more, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Scouts are curious, adventurous, and ready to give new things a go. Yes, we camp, hike, swim, abseil, cycle, and canoe — but we also spend time together every week, having fun, playing games, supporting each other, and taking on new challenges as a team.
Every week, we support almost half a million young people aged 6 to 25 to build confidence and skills that will help them succeed in school, college, university, work, and life — from teamwork and leadership to resilience and creativity.
Scouting has helped people from all walks of life become teachers, social workers, astronauts, Olympians, and community leaders. We are proud to celebrate diversity and inclusion, standing against intolerance in all its forms.
We welcome everyone — regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, background, or physical ability. There is a place for every young person in Scouting, and we are committed to making sure all adventures are accessible and rewarding.
