Uniform and Costs

Uniform and costs Our uniform gives everyone in Scouts a sense of belonging.

Uniform

As a uniformed youth group, our uniform helps young people feel part of something special and proud of their achievements — especially as they earn and wear badges that mark their progress and skills.

Our uniform consists of a jumper or shirt paired with the group neckerchief (necker).

Uniform items can be purchased from various online retailers, or you might find great second-hand options on websites like Marketplace or Vinted.

At Brompton & Catterick St Annes, we also run a reuse and recycle scheme, so we often have second-hand uniforms available to pass on to new members.

Once invested into the group, every young person will receive a group necker, a woggle, and their first bundle of badges.

If you’re unsure where to start or what to buy, just ask your section’s volunteers — they’ll be happy to guide you.

Groups Fees: Subs

To help cover the group’s running costs, resources, and the Scouts’ annual membership fees, each Scout group charges a fee called subs.

At Brompton & Catterick St Annes, subs are collected termly — in January, April, and September — and cover all regular weekly meetings throughout the term.

Occasionally, there may be additional charges for special events, camps, or extra activities, but we always strive to keep costs as low as possible to make Scouting accessible for everyone.

No young person should miss out on Scouting because of financial challenges. If you’re finding it hard to pay subs or buy a uniform, please reach out to one of our group volunteers for support. All requests and conversations will be handled with complete confidentiality.

Uniform and badge placement

You don’t need a uniform to join. But once you’ve settled in, you’ll start speedily earning badges, and you’ll need to know where to put them!
